I've been seeing a registered counselor for awhile now and have been finding our sessions together very helpful. In yesterday's session she suggested we try hypnotherapy in response to the issues we were discussing. I had already researched hypnotherapy online and was ready to give it a try.
I had read that hypnoses is a natural state of mind. That under hypnosis you feel extremely relaxed, possibly in a similar state between being awake and asleep. I also read that you can't be hypnotized against your will and that hypnotherapy is a collaborative effort. All this was true of my experience.
A few things that really amazed me were:
1. How relaxed I really felt.
2. How good I felt when I was finished - refreshed and relaxed.
3. How quickly the time passed. It felt like it was only 15 minutes, when in reality it was closer to 45 min.
4. That I felt like I was losing my balance in the middle of the session. I felt like I was tipping over. Which was strange, because I was sitting down on a couch.
5. That I didn't know where some thoughts came from. It was like my answers caught me off guard, even though I was in control of my responses.
Have any of you tried hypnotherapy? What was your experience like?
I tried hypnotherapy for weight loss and it did not work for me in that regard. But, I do use hypnosis and guided meditations sometimes to help me to stay focus, or relaxed or help me sleep.
ReplyDeleteInteresting!
ReplyDeleteI have thought about hypnosis... I have went as far as researching it, finding a therapist that offers it, calling for prices & then I stopped.
I do have a CD called "I can make you confident." I don't know about confidence, but it does put me to sleep each & everytime.
Do you recall your answers? Were you aware the whole time of what was going on? Do you have the session on tape?
Cindy - yes, I remember everything, all my answers, and I was aware the whole time. I don't have the session on tape, but it's all in my memory!
ReplyDeleteAbout five years ago, I tried hypnotherapy to quick smoking. I remember feeling very relaxed and refreshed after every session. The hypnotherapy didn't help me quick smoking but it did help me to manage my anxiety and depression. I definitely would recommend it for anyone who wants to improve their mood.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how it worked for you! So glad you decided to give it a try. For me it was life changing. I think it depends on your therapist. I can honestly say that with Hypnotherapy and supplements, I am for once in my life, anxiety free. I recently took on a new job that is high profile and challenging and has been plagued with bad PR with a board of directors who has a bad reputation...not even concerned. I am confident and doing things that used to throw me into a tizzy like public speaking and media interviews. I hope this works out for you.
ReplyDeleteI suffered serious panic attacks that took control of my life. Rather than addiction to meds, I tried hypnosis, and three years later i have not had any meds just a mind over matter ability, the weirdest thing.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have had a good introduction into what hypnotherapy can do for you. Some hypnotherapist produce a cd with a relaxation hypnosis / meditation that you could continue to work with at home to help enhance the experience.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post, always interesting to read about other peoples experiences
My husbands therapist is trained and specializes in hypnotherapy. Several months ago he did this avenue w/her and on occasion will still do it.
ReplyDeleteHe lost about 20 lbs and continues to loose weight. The key for him is to continue working with her and finding the issues that are feeding into his over-eating. I say 20 lbs but I am sure its been more.
Hypnotherapy fosters an attitude of independence and mastery in coping with problems and can also accelerate the healing process in many physiological problems.
ReplyDeleteFree Guided Meditations really help me after a long day. I have a stressful job added to a family with 3 kids. It really helps me unwind after a long day.
