Today the Canucks for Kids Fund (CFKF) in conjunction with Fraser Health and Provincial Health Services Authority, and BC Children’s Hospital announced the launch of Mindcheck.ca, a resource website designed for BC youth and young adults, as well as family members and friends, to recognize symptoms and better understand the challenges of mental illness.
Vancouver Canuck defenceman Kevin Bieksa (see video below) lends his voice to the site to share his experiences with a close friend and teammate, Rick Rypien, who suffered from depression. You can check out the press release here.
Way to go Vancouver Canucks and Kevin Bieksa! It's so great to see sports heroes bringing awareness to such an important illness.
As a psych nurse this is so great to see!! Thank you Kevin and all who inspired this. I love the line "it's not a burden to care for someone you care about" We as a society need to see the value in one friend, one big caring community. YEAH!! CFKF !!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Kim, I was so excited to see this!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping it gives more of us ordinary everyday bloggers the confidence to dispense with the anonymity.
